NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police and Fall River Police worked together to chase down and apprehend a wanted man who had allegedly cut off his ankle monitor and made violent threats.

According to New Bedford Police, officers arrested Brandon Sylvia, 30, of New Bedford, in the early morning hours of June 22.

Police said that throughout the night, officers responded to several locations in New Bedford trying to locate Sylvia, who was believed to be armed and who had allegedly made threats against others. He was eventually located in the area of Upton Street.

Suspect Flees Foot Chase After Hitting Police Cruiser

Officers attempted to stop his vehicle, at which point Sylvia struck a police cruiser and fled the scene on foot. After a brief chase, officers placed him into custody.

He was charged with operating with a suspended or revoked license, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop or yield, leaving the scene of property damage, resisting arrest, and vandalizing property.

Severe Fall River Charges Looming Against Brandon Sylvia

Fall River Police are also looking to bring him up on charges including kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threat to commit a crime, unarmed robbery, trespassing, witness/juror/police intimidation, larceny from a building, stalking, unarmed burglary, and domestic violence-related charges.

No information was provided about what led to the Fall River charges or the nature of the threats allegedly made.
