The return of Drag Queen Story Time is already underway at the Fall River Public Library.

Myles Lowery, Media Director of the Fall River Pride Committee, said that because of the success of past events, including one that occurred on October 9, the library and the Pride Committee have decided to make Drag Queen Story Time a monthly occurrence.

The Oct. 9 edition Drag Queen Story Time featured drag queen Bella Luna, and she will also be returning for the next monthly event, slated for November 13.

"It's a great way to bring the community together," Lowry said. "Bella Luna does an outstanding job."

November's event will feature two books: And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell, and Unicorns 101 Cale Atkins.

Due to the busy holiday season, Drag Queen Story Time will be put on hold for the month of December, but the series will start again in January. Each month there will be a different drag queen hosting and reading to the audience. All are welcomed to these public events.

Back in June of 2019, the very first drag queen reading event was held at the library, bringing hundreds of supportive voices outside the library to counter a group of religious protesters. The reading continued onward and ended up becoming a very successful event, and similar events have taken place in New Bedford and other communities in Massachusetts.

The Fall River Pride Committee is part of the SouthCoast LGBTQ Network, and it works “to help and affirm every member of the LGBTQ community."

New Bedford Rally for Women's Reproductive Rights

On October 2, 2021, men and women from around the SouthCoast rallied at Buttonwood Park in New Bedford to keep abortion laws intact in the United States.
