FALL RIVER (WBSM) — A 21-year-old Fall River man was sentenced to up to 13 and a half years in state prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old who was walking to school.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas J. Quinn III said Xavien Figueroa-Valcarcel pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court on May 1 to the manslaughter charge and was sentenced to serve nine to 13.5 years in state prison.

Figueroa-Valcarcel, who had no criminal record prior to the incident, was the driver of a vehicle in which passengers were involved in the fatal shooting of Colus Jamal Mills-Good, 18.

What Happened on Rock Street in Fall River

The incident took place on March 14, 2024, when at about 11:40 a.m., Fall River Police received several 911 calls regarding a male shot in the middle of Rock Street. Police arrived to find Mills-Good suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to a local hospital, during which time he was alert but declined to identify who shot him. At the hospital, he died while undergoing surgery.

Police investigation determined Mills-Good had been walking up Rock Street toward Resiliency Preparatory Academy, where he was a student. A vehicle approached and three shooters exited.

Police Track Down Suspects

Police tracked the vehicle and eventually were able to arrest all four individuals that had been in it, including Figueroa-Valcarcel, the driver.

The alleged shooter, Amannie Chiclana, 19, was charged with murder and carrying an illegal firearm. Jaydn Ortiz, 19, and Giovanni Nunes, 18, were arrested and charged with accessory to murder after the fact. All three were from Fall River.

Prosecutor: Driver Had No Intent to Kill

“The defendant was the driver of a car that contained several defendants who were involved in the senseless daytime shooting of the victim,” Quinn said. “The evidence established that this defendant did not have the intent to kill the victim.”
