FALL RIVER (WBSM) — Fall River Police arrested a man on Wednesday on outstanding warrants and found him to be in possession of a defaced firearm without a license to carry.
Police said that a Vice detective was on patrol in the Niagara section of Fall River on September 4 when the detective spotted Keyante Mills, 26, who was known to be wanted on an outstanding warrant.
Detectives began to approach Mills, and police said a brief foot chase ensued before he was taken into custody.
They said that after he was arrested, officers located a bag he had allegedly discarded prior to running from police. Inside the bag was a black Smith & Wesson 9mm firearm.
In addition to the outstanding arrest warrant, Mills is also charged with carrying a firearm without a license to carry, carrying a loaded firearm without a license to carry, possession of a large capacity firearm, receiving a firearm with a defaced serial number, and receiving stolen property.
Police said Mills had previously been released on a GPS monitoring bracelet for firearms-related charges.
