FALL RIVER (WBSM) — Fall River Police arrested the victim in a shooting last week after he was allegedly found in violation of an abuse prevention order and in possession of fentanyl.

According to police, detectives responded to Charlton Memorial Hospital on May 9 following a reported shooting near the 200-block of Orange Street. The victim, identified as Jesus Santana, 22, had suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said that during the course of the investigation, “hospital staff turned over evidence removed from Santana’s person, including approximately 10.6 grams of suspected fentanyl and a wallet containing a large sum of cash.”

“Further investigation revealed that Santana had been at a residence on Pine Street prior to the shooting, which was a direct violation of an active abuse prevention order against him,” police said.

Once medically cleared, Santana was arrested and charged with trafficking in fentanyl over 10 grams and two counts of violating an abuse prevention order.

Police said the investigation into the shooting remains active.
