Owner of Duke’s in Fall River Teams Up with a Shark for a New Food Truck Franchise
Duke’s Bakery in Fall River started as a kind gesture for a family member with dietary restrictions, and now, its owner and creator is teaming up with a Shark to take the Duke’s name to a new level.
Thanks to Christine Holden’s passion and entrepreneurial spirit, she is franchising her gluten-free experience with the help of Kevin Harrington, a successful businessman most recognized for his time on the hit television series Shark Tank.

Christine Holden’s Journey to Becoming a Franchisor
14 years ago, Christine Holden’s vision took shape. Her partner’s nephew with autism benefitted from a gluten-free and dairy-free diet, so she began coming up with tasty recipes.
“The next thing I know, I own a business,” she laughed.
At Duke's, every item, from the baked goods to the savory meals, is gluten-free. Holden believes in her product and the importance of tasty gluten-free options. Last year, she took a huge step in growing her brand.
“I took a program at Santander Bank for food entrepreneurs to learn how to pitch a business to investors,” said Holden. “At the end of 12 weeks, you pitch to two Santander people and they give feedback.”
Holden is a self-proclaimed perfectionist and wanted to get some reps in before her test.
“I saw something on Facebook about Kevin Harrington to get a commercial for your business. I thought to myself, ‘I’m going to pitch myself to him and see what happens.”
The truth is, Harrington loved her vision. Holden explained the lack of gluten-free options in the restaurant space and how she wanted to expand her brand with food trucks.
Weeks went by without any answer from Harrington’s team, then about one month later, Holden got her answer.
“I got an email saying they loved my ideas,” she said. “They researched my business and felt Duke’s would be a great franchise model to partner with. It’s incredible.”

Dukes Chicken and Waffle Food Truck
In partnership with Kevin Harrington’s team, Duke’s Chicken and Waffle Food Truck was born.
“Answering consumer demand for better options, Duke’s Bakery is shaking things up in the gluten-free space, raising the standards for taste, quality ingredients, and overall consumer experience,” said Duke’s.
Now, Holden and Harrington Franchise Group are on the hunt for the perfect franchisees that will will uphold the Duke’s standard and get the first Dukes Chicken and Waffle Food Truck up and running.
“If you’re passionate about food that’s tasty, but also nutritious, this is a franchise opportunity you won’t want to miss,” said Harrington.
