Massachusetts ‘Cactus Bandits’ Caught on Camera at Fall River’s Belmont Club
There’s a strange little trend happening around Fall River lately, and honestly, it’s becoming hard to ignore.
First, there was the stolen lawn gnome from St. James Irish Pub. Now, another local hotspot has become the latest victim of what feels like a bizarre wave of restaurant and bar thefts.
This time, it happened at The Belmont Club, the same Fall River establishment that comedian Matt Rife visited back in January 2025. According to Adam, the manager at The Belmont, a couple allegedly walked off with one of the restaurant’s cactus centerpieces late Sunday night and the entire thing was caught on security cameras. See for yourself.

Belmont Club Calls Out the ‘Cactus Bandits’
The Belmont Club took to Facebook with a tongue-in-cheek plea aimed directly at the suspected thieves along with still-frame security camera images showing the couple believed to be responsible.
“A letter to these two fellow lovers of our cactus centerpiece,” the post read. “We appreciate the great taste that you have in decor, however, we would greatly appreciate it if you could bring back our property.”

The incident happened around 11:57 p.m., just before closing time on Sunday night. While the item itself may seem small, it’s more about the principle of the whole thing.
A Weirdly Specific Theft Trend
What makes this even stranger is that another plant-related theft happened the very same day at The Old Grist Mill Tavern in Seekonk, where flowers were reportedly pulled straight from the restaurant’s outdoor garden beds. No surveillance footage has surfaced publicly from that incident yet, but the timing and similarities definitely raise eyebrows.
At this point, Fall River’s growing list of stolen restaurant decorations is becoming oddly specific. Giant lawn gnomes, decorative cactuses, and even flower box plants. There's quite the case of sticky fingers accumulating across the region.
