FALL RIVER (WBSM) — Fall River authorities are seeking the public’s help in catching an animal cruelty suspect.

Fall River Police and Fall River Animal Control shared a post on Wednesday afternoon with a photo of a dog who is “severely malnourished” and had “open wounds on its body with required emergency veterinarian care,” according to police.

Police said the dog is believed to have been dumped out of a black truck.

Massachusetts state law carries a penalty of up to seven years in state prison and a fine of up to $5,000 for a conviction of animal cruelty. A second or subsequent offense can carry a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Anyone with information on the dog or its owner is asked to contact Fall River Police Detective Joseph Boyajian at (508) 676-8511 ext. 250, or they can call the anonymous TIP Line at (508) 672-TIPS (8477).
