Fairhaven’s annual Teddy Bear Parade returns this Saturday. Tell your kids to grab their favorite stuffed animal and meet your friends at Millicent Library.

Allie Thiel, youth services librarian at Millicent Library, is excited to continue this long standing tradition in Fairhaven with the 36th annual Teddy Bear Parade. This one is special for Thiel, however, because it is her first time hosting the event.

“I started (at Millicent Library) in January, and I know this is something a lot of people love and I’m looking forward to it,” Thiel said.

With the exception of 2020, Fairhaven’s Teddy Bear Parade has taken place every year for the past 35 years. It has become a cherished tradition for many Fairhaven families and their children.

“(The parents) did it when they were kids, and now they get to take their kids,” explained Thiel.

Children, along with their family and friends, are invited to join the Millicent Library on Saturday, August 14 at 10 a.m. to participate in the parade. All you need is your favorite stuffed animal and picnic supplies.

The parade begins at the library, passes by Our Lady’s Haven Nursing Home, and loops back to library’s lawn where there will be a picnic and live entertainment by Daisy D. Dots the clown, a veteran performer for the Teddy Bear Parade.

“Events like this are really fun,” Thiel said. “It gives people something to celebrate, and it gives families a chance to meet each other.”

Thiel and the Millicent Library look forward to keeping this beloved tradition alive this coming weekend.
