Fairhaven Power Issues: What’s Causing It to Go Out?
FAIRHAVEN (WBSM) — For the past few weeks, we've been experiencing power outages at the Fairhaven offices of our radio station. The power will go off for a few seconds and then come back on.
We have a generator, but other stores in our plaza have confirmed it's been the same for them as well.
Today, I was out running some errands around Fairhaven and found out that similar quick little power outages have been happening at other spots along Route 6. A business in the Lifestyles Plaza said they've been dealing with it, too.
The business owner mentioned she was told something about underground power lines that need replacing.
As I was walking into Stop & Shop afterward to grab some lunch, I heard two employees talking about it.
"Oh, it's happening here, too?" I asked.
One of the employees said yes, and that they were told that the underground power lines were outdated and that all the rainfall we've been having lately has saturated the ground and causing issues with those lines, hence the outages.
As annoying as a brief flicker of the lights can be, it can cause havoc at a business that is using computers or other machines to process payments, handle bookkeeping or other such scenarios.
Something tells me there's going to be a run on battery backup systems at Staples if this keeps going.
This evening, the power outage issue was a topic of discussion in a Fairhaven Facebook group, with commenters especially mentioning East Fairhaven as the problem area. Some mentioned they had contacted Eversource but have yet to get any answers.
I reached out to our media relations contact at Eversource to see if we can get any more information. Hopefully we will be able to provide an answer soon and Eversource can do something about it – especially since there's more rain to come.
