Fairhaven Lands a Spot as One of Massachusetts’ Richest Towns

We know that the town of Fairhaven is definitely one of Massachusetts' treasures, but what we didn't know is it's one of its richest.

Aside from our absolutely beautiful high school (and other Henry Huttleston Rogers-financed buildings) and stunning waterfront properties, nothing screams that Fairhaven has money. Maybe that's just me.

MoneyInc. a website that talks about all matters surrounding money, is claiming Fairhaven is one of the top 30 towns in our state when it comes to its value. It's the only city or town on the SouthCoast that made the list.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting its place on the list at all, but having grew up here, I needed to be reminded of its charm.

Like most of the places in Massachusetts that landed on the list, Fairhaven is rich in history, which inherently increases its value.

Its vast stretch of waterfront property makes it not only desirable for tourists and those in the fishing industry, but if you happen to own a home on or near the water, you know the value and cost of having a home tends to lend itself to the higher income bracket.

Also, if you haven't taken a walk around Fairhaven in a minute, you may have forgotten that there are some pretty nice mansions along the water that were built during the whaling era, the time when the SouthCoast was notably one of the richest places in our great nation.

The article mentions that Fairhaven also has great boutique shopping, recreational water activities and upscale dining. I could say the same for our neighboring town of Dartmouth, which didn't make the list at all.

If Fairhaven is, in fact, one of the richest, why haven't we figured out that bridge yet?

Now I'm not sure how much weight you want to give this list but I do think it's nice to shed some light of some of the small, less-talked about towns, especially those as special and charming as Fairhaven, home to the legendary Fun 107.
