Fairhaven Man Killed in Crash Identified
FAIRHAVEN — The man killed in a fatal crash in Fairhaven on Sunday evening has been identified as 59-year-old George Thatcher.
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office said Thatcher died as a result of a two-vehicle car crash at Main and Hedge streets just after 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Police were alerted to the crash with a 911 call at 7:10 p.m. that evening, according to the office.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Thatcher's red Chevrolet sedan was heading south on Main Street when it crossed the double yellow line into the northbound lane.
The red car then hit a gray Toyota Rav4 driven by a 36-year-old man, who had his 33-year-old wife and two young children in the car with him.
According to the D.A.'s office, the kids are aged four and one.
All four people in the Toyota were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford with minor injuries.
Thatcher was also taken to St. Luke's, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 7:22 p.m.
