Fairhaven Police Take Armed Suspect Into Custody After Standoff
FAIRHAVEN (WBSM) — Fairhaven Police took an armed suspect into custody Monday night following a nearly four-hour standoff.
According to Lt. Kevin Kobza, Fairhaven Police responded to a report of a disturbance at 166 Ebony Street at around 4:30 p.m. today.
Police arrived to find the suspect, later identified as a 56-year-old Fairhaven man, barricaded inside of a camper on the property and armed with a knife.
Kobza said officers negotiated with the suspect for a number of hours before he was peacefully taken into custody at around 8:15 p.m. He said two nearby homes were evacuated so police could maintain a safe perimeter around the property.
No further information including the suspect’s identity or the nature of the charges against him is being released, with Kobza citing the Domestic Violence Act of 2014 as the reason.
It was also not indicated if this is the same man who attempted to gain entry into an Ebony Street address last month, a man who police said at that time has a history of mental illness.
