Ahead of their highly-anticipated MIAA Super Bowl matchup, the Fairhaven Blue Devils football team got a surprise boost from New England Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai.

On Tuesday, December 3, the Patriots’ No. 48 delivered an inspiring message to the Blue Devils, wishing them luck as they prepared to face off against the Hudson Hawks.

“What’s up, Fairhaven, this is Jahlani Tavai with the New England Patriots,” Tavai said in a video shared on the Patriots' official Facebook page. “Just wanted to wish you guys good luck during your State Championship game. Go out there and do your thing, and hopefully the cards fold in your favor. Good luck, and I wish you guys nothing but success.”

The video quickly racked up thousands of views as Fairhaven fans rallied around their team.

This marked the Blue Devils' second consecutive appearance in the championship game. Last year, they brought the trophy home to Huttleston Avenue, cementing their place in Fairhaven sports history.

This year’s contest, however, ended in a hard-fought 21-14 loss to the Hudson Hawks. Despite the outcome, the Blue Devils left everything on the field in a nail-biting game that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

Though the championship slipped through their fingers this season, the Blue Devils have once again proven their resilience and skill, and with continued community support, they’ll undoubtedly be a force to watch next year.
