SEEKONK — An elderly married couple died in a car crash in Seekonk on Monday evening, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
Pawtucket, Rhode Island residents Robert and Winifred Langevin, both 70 years old, were killed in the crash, which took place just after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Route 44 in Seekonk.
A preliminary investigation has found that Robert was driving a 2004 Corvette with his wife, Winifred, in the passenger seat, when they cut in front of a Jeep Wrangler, according to the D.A.'s office.
The Corvette stopped at a stop sign before trying to cross Route 44 from the northern section of Lincoln Street.

Multiple witnesses told police that the Corvette tried to cross Route 44 just as the Jeep approached the intersection, according to the office.
The Jeep driver braked and tried to swerve out of the Corvette's way, but couldn't.
Winifred Langevin was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
First responders rushed Robert Langevin to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the D.A.'s office stated.
The Jeep driver was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.
