A Sweet New Addition To The Ropewalk

A brand new coffee shop and bakery is already making a name for itself in Mattapoisett.

Eden Coffee and Bakery has officially opened inside the Ropewalk, bringing fresh pastries, coffee, and a personal touch from owner Vanessa Dossantos, who is stepping into business ownership for the very first time.

From Pastry Chef To Business Owner

Dossantos brings years of experience as a pastry chef, having worked in restaurants, bakeries, and hotels across Boston and Newport. When the opportunity to open a shop in Mattapoisett came along, she decided to take the leap.

“It was a scary decision,” she admitted, but one that has already begun to pay off.

Though she does not live in town, Dossantos says she has always been drawn to Mattapoisett, especially the waterfront and the Ned's Point sunsets.

A Menu That Keeps Changing

One thing that sets Eden Coffee and Bakery apart is its constantly evolving menu. Dossantos regularly rotates pastries, sandwiches, and desserts to keep things fresh.

So far, a few items have quickly become favorites, including the fruit tarts, banana bread, and surprisingly, her cinnamon rolls.

“I never thought I was good at cinnamon rolls,” she said with a laugh, “but people love them.”

Her banana bread, topped with a crumble, has also become a fan favorite.

Maybel, a Project Grow student at the Center School, was able to talk her way into one of the banana bread slices on her ride home from school. She said she loves the chocolate chips in the bread.

A Personal Touch

As a Brazilian baker, Dossantos says her flan is the one item she would serve to anyone trying the shop for the first time.

Eden Coffee and Bakery is open Monday through Friday from 6 a m to 4 p m and Sunday from 7 a m to 2 p m. Saturdays, she says, are for family time.
