CARVER - No charges have been filed after a Monponsett man fatally strikes a man with his vehicle in Carver.

Massachusetts State Police released Monday that at about 12:35 a.m. Friday, troopers responded to a two-car crash on Route 44 in Carver.

Preliminary investigation reveals that a 23-year-old Monponsett man was traveling west on Route 44 in a 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant when he struck a 1998 Saturn SL2, which was stationary in the breakdown lane, and the driver of the Saturn, who was believed to be outside of his vehicle at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Saturn, a 31-year-old East Taunton man, was transported to South Shore Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The operator of the Mitsubishi was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

The identities of the driver and the victim are not being released at this time.
