Dove Soap Uses Filthy Song in TV Commercial
As I celebrate 30 years here at Fun 107 this month, I am increasingly seeing signs that are showing just how long I've been here.
Edginess Over the Fun 107 Years
Fun 107 has always been a family radio station, especially during the day. Once in a while, though, a song will come along that is a little bit edgy, so we'll choose to play it only at night when there is greatly reduced danger that a little kid might here the song.
One of those songs was Khia. She released a song back in 2001 that was about as filthy as you can get. It was called "My Neck, My Back." Granted, we played the "radio edit" version, but the high school kids knew exactly what she was singing about and they would scream the real lyrics over the ones that were playing on Fun 107 or at the school dance.
Want to Feel Old?
Here comes the kicker: I would never have imagined that nearly 25 years later, the song would still be known. Beyond that, the song is now shockingly being featured in none other than a Dove television commercial.
I'm sorry, what?
Khia Dove Commercial
One of the most wholesome brands in America has chosen one of the filthiest songs from the Y2K era to represent their product? The answer is "yes." Don't believe me? Check out this YouTube video of the Dove Whole Body Deodorant commercial with features the lyrics: "My neck, my back, my legs and pits and all that."
I'm just relieved there's no dirty version of the commercial. That might get hairy.
