Nantucket Harbor Almost Swallows Up ‘Captain’ Dave Portnoy
Nantucket life got the best of Dave Portnoy this week when he found himself drifting farther and farther away from the harbor on a boat with no power.
Thanks to a random woman on a sailboat, the Barstool CEO was saved from floating out to sea by the U.S. Coast Guard, and now Portnoy is contemplating his life decisions from the safety on land.
Dave Portnoy Stranded at Sea
“I was almost lost to Mother Ocean,” Portnoy said as he reflected on the incident on TikTok.
The plan was to show his mother his boat, but the trip quickly took a turn.

“Unhooked it to the buoys, turned the engine on, dead,” Portnoy said. “No power, no radio, no anchor, no nothing.”
With heavy winds and only his mother to keep him company, Portnoy’s 28-foot boat began drifting out to sea.
Thankfully, a woman in what Portnoy described as a rowboat came by and called the Coast Guard for assistance.

"Station Brant Point diverted from training and towed (Portnoy’s) vessel to its mooring,” a U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson told NBC Boston. “We are glad that he used distressed signals and applaud the Good Samaritan for having a VHF radio ready to hail the Coast Guard.”
Dave Portnoy May Never Boat Again
“Captain Dave lives to tell another tale,” Portnoy said from a windy Nantucket beach.
It’s only a matter of time before Barstool rolls out with “Captain Dave” merch after this whirlwind experience.
Portnoy claims he may never boat again. If he does, maybe next time, he’ll at least remember the anchor.
