Keith Pittman is a Dartmouth native now living in Lakeville, and he's got a chance to audition for legendary rock band Skid Row. Pittman told Fun 107 it was an opportunity he couldn't pass up.

How Keith Pittman Learned About the Skid Row Audition

Pittman said he did not initially seek out the audition himself. Instead, friends and fellow musicians began sending him a link to the open casting call shared by Sweetwater (a sound equipment store), encouraging him to give it a shot.

“The more people started to reach out to me saying you should do it, the more I said, you know what, I’ll give it a shot,” Pittman said. “Might as well put myself out there and see what happens.”

To audition, Pittman recorded himself performing Skid Row’s classic songs “18 and Life” and “Monkey Business,” posting the videos online using the official hashtag #SkidRowNextChapter and submitting them directly to the band through Sweetwater’s platform.

A Lifetime of Music and Rock Influences

Music has been part of Pittman’s life for as long as he can remember. He started playing drums at just two years old and has spent years performing alongside musicians older than himself, including playing drums in his father Ken Pittman’s Bon Jovi tribute band Livin' on a Bad Name.

In recent years, Pittman has expanded into lead vocals, performing with the band Firstborn and singing Steve Perry’s demanding vocals with the Journey Experience tribute band.

Honoring Skid Row’s Legacy While Staying Authentic

When preparing his audition, Pittman said he focused on capturing the intensity of original Skid Row front man Sebastian Bach while still sounding like himself.

“I try to match the intensity where I can while also sounding like myself,” Pittman said. “What came out is what I think I would sound like on stage with those guys.”

A Dream Opportunity For a SouthCoast Rock Vocalist

While Pittman has not yet heard back from Skid Row, he said simply being considered would be an incredible honor.

“Just to go up on stage with such a legendary name would be beyond an honor,” he said.
