Dartmouth’s Hawthorne Country Club Sells for $3M But Golf and Events Are Likely Gone for Good

Hawthorne Country Club has seen better days.  It doesn't seem like too long ago when we would host the Fun 107 Christmas party at the popular Dartmouth spot. I DJ'd my fair share of weddings there. I've attended wedding expos and shows. I've even golfed at Hawthorne Country Club. It all feels like only a few years ago.

However, the building at the club has sat stagnant. It is shocking how far into disrepair this once-exclusive club has fallen. A couple of years ago, we shared some shocking photos showing the property's condition.

Finally, after seven years, there is news to report about the club.  According to Jeff Hathaway, the property's listing agent, the club has been sold for asking price. That's $3 million.

What Will Hawthorne Country Club Become?

Hathaway says after six months of negotiation, the property has been sold to national builder Toll Brothers, which bills itself as "America's Luxury Home Builder." The company ranks 397 on the Fortune 500 list.

The plan, according to Hathaway, is for the construction of a 55-plus (or maybe even a 62-plus) condominium complex. The structure that now stands as the club will be knocked down.

"The country club itself will be non-existent.  It will be all condos spread across the golf course's 56 acres," Hathaway said. "I believe they're going to propose 105 condos."

The plans, however, are still not a guarantee because they have to be approved by the fall Dartmouth town meeting and zoning changes need to be implemented.
