Dartmouth Boy Beats Cancer, Celebrates with ‘Landon Day’ at Quinn Elementary School

Some emotional moments at Quinn Elementary School in Dartmouth this morning as 6-year-old Landon Guile was honored after battling leukemia for the past year. The boy had been undergoing chemotherapy treatments but has managed to put them in his rearview mirror.

The school decided to create a day in his honor.

The school declared Feb. 17 "Landon Day." In addition to celebrating that Landon is now in remission, his first-grade teacher, Anne Realini, interviewed him to make sure that everything about the day was his very favorite.

How Landon Day Was Celebrated

Per his request, students and staff showed up to school wearing their favorite pajamas to add to the festive spirit. They were also tasked with bringing in their favorite stuffed animals. His teachers, friends and fellow students lined the hallways, cheering Landon on as he walked to his classroom, Baby Yoda in hand.

The day was capped off with a showing of Disney's "Encanto," complete with Landon's favorite snacks (pretzels and Oreos). "We want to shout it from the rooftops," said Realini. "Landon beat cancer!"

What Landon Day Means to Quinn School

"It's just so special because Landon is a very special little boy who has gone through something that no one should have to go through," Realini said. "He's come out on the other side strong, and just as sweet as can be. He deserves this over-the-top day to celebrate how amazing he is."

A Special Award

Landon was honored with a special Principals Award for Bravery. 

"I've been crying happy tears all day," said Landon's mom, Amy Guile. "I don't even have the words. I'm speechless. The things that the Quinn School did for Landon today were just absolutely amazing. They went above and beyond. It was truly heartwarming."

Landon told us that he feels "fantastic" to be finished with his chemotherapy.
