A while back, I told you about my granddog Astro, the Black Lab my son Steve and his now wife Erica adopted two years ago while living in Arizona.

When Steve and Erica decided to move east about a year and a half ago, there was nothing traditional about the move. Instead of a U-Haul trailer, "the kids" rented a 30-foot recreational vehicle, loaded what possessions they planned to keep underneath, and hit the open road.

My wife and I flew out to Scottsdale to meet them. For the next two and a half weeks, Steve, Erica, my wife, Astro, a cat named Phoenix and I toured the country from Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Indiana, and points east.

It was the trip of a lifetime.

Since arriving in Massachusetts, Astro has adapted well. After all, her early months were spent in the desert and then as a roadie.

Astro has a good life and makes our life better by gracing it with her presence. When Steve and Erica are on the road, Astro stays with us. She loves Horseneck Beach and the dog park and recently had her picture taken with Santa.

We have another granddog, a Greyhound named Hermes, who lives in Virginia with our other son Zach. We wish we could see Zach and Hermes more often, but at this point, we will take what we can get.

From all of us to all of you, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and to all, a good night!

Dartmouth Dog's Excellent Cross-Country Journey

Barry's granddog Astro is not even two years old yet and has settled in Dartmouth but has visited more states than most people he knows – and he was fortunate enough to see them with her.
