Could a Fairhaven Woman Be Maxim’s New Cover Girl?

Tomorrow is the big day Eden Gonet has been waiting for. The top 24 contestants for the national Maxim Cover Girl contest will be announced. The 19-year-old Fairhaven woman is one of the remaining females in the contest.

She's a college student, a hostess, a cashier, and a babysitter. She is in her rookie year for modeling, but she has already found some success by landing jobs in local print ads and in a feature for some up-and-coming photographers in Vogue Italia.

“I’ve always worked hard. It’s something my family instilled in me and modeling isn’t any different," she said. "Vision without action really is a daydream and so even when the odds are stacked you have to remember that. Plus, it’s for a good cause. We should be helping veterans when they return home after deployment. It’s important to me to help, period, in whatever capacity I can."

The contestants who place in the number one spot in each group are the only ones in the quarter-finals that will advance to the semi-finals. Eden said, "I’m so grateful to have made it this far, I really thought this was just wishful thinking. I mean there have already been six cuts and six weeks of competition to make it through. Whatever happens, I’m so grateful to have the support that we have found locally. It’s really important to know people believe in you."

Voting is free, and today is the last day to vote. The contest also offers the purchase of a Warrior Vote which allows the contestant to gain more votes while also providing funds for the Homes For Wounded Warriors. With the funds raised during last year's contest, Maxim was able to build four new homes for wounded warriors.

“I would never ask anyone to buy the votes,” Eden said. “I actually don’t like that money can have the final say in this kind of competition, but I do like that I can maybe be helpful in some small way.”
