Coit: Patriots Win in Tennessee With or Without Maye
It as a bittersweet win at Foxboro on Sunday. It's been a minute since we've seen a come-from-behind win like that from the Patriots. That was pretty sweet.
It was bitter, however to see Patriots' rookie quarterback Drake Maye leaving the blue tent on the sidelines and head into the locker room where he spent the rest of his afternoon.
Adding to the bitterness was that it was a cheap shot from Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood that knocked the 22-year-old out of the game. Maye has been undergoing concussion protocol this week, and Patriots dead coach Jerod Mayo said, "We can't wait to get him back."
It was backup quarterback and current captain Jacoby Brissett that led the team on Sunday, saying they were "challenged," referring to Mayo's comment last week that the team was "soft." Mayo may have known exactly what he was doing, essentially creating his own bulletin board material for his team.
"Drake Maye was on the field Thursday in a limited capacity," said ABC 6 Sports Director Nick Coit. "Seeing him out there, seeing him in the locker room, I think it's a good sign that he could be good to go on Sunday in Tennessee. The team is just being as cautious as possible as he goes through concussion protocol."
Will the Patriots Win in Tennessee This Weekend?
Coit believes whether Maye or Brissett is under center on Sunday, the Patriots will come out of Tennessee with their second straight win.
The key to the win? Coit said the defense needs to step up.
