FAIRHAVEN — A large diesel fuel spill in the area of Pease Park boat ramp was contained last evening through the combined efforts of Fairhaven Fire/EMS, Fairhaven Harbormaster, Fairhaven EMA, Fairhaven Police, New Bedford Fire, Harbor Development Commission, US Coast Guard, and MA DEP.

The accidental discharge of fuel resulted in up to 100 gallons being released into Fairhaven waters from the F/V Pacific Capes which is owned by Atlantic Cape Fisheries.   The spill extends from Linberg Marine to the Seaport Inn Marina.

Frank Corp has been contracted to continue cleanup efforts today, but residents should expect a lingering odor of diesel and a heavy sheen on the water in the area between Lindberg Marine and the Route 6 bridge. As the temperature rises and the sun breaks it down, the sheen should dissipate.
