Synthetic Drugs Are Not Safe

City Officials are exploring ways to ban the sale of synthetic drugs across the city. These drugs are known on the street as "Spice", "Scooby Snack" or K2 and can often be as dangerous and deadly as other drugs.

These substances are often sold in local neighborhood convenience stores, gas stations or smoke shops. Warning labels state they "Are not for human consumption " which prevents the manufactures from meeting Food and Drug Administration guidelines, but many people use these products for personal enhancement. The dangers of consuming these drugs can lead to the user experiencing a rapid heart rate, agitation, shortness of breath and hallucinations and even the risk of death. Some local retailers have already voluntarily stopped selling these substances all together.

It’s a problem across many Massachusetts communities including Wareham and Boston. The Mayor, Health Officials and City Councilors are working together to address this issue.
