New Bedford city councilors say they have been asking for better snow removal equipment for years. At their meeting on Thursday night, they revealed that 17 of the city's snowplows broke down during last weekend's storm, and are not out of commission.

The councilors also called for some hearings with those involved with planning for that storm, including the Nstar utility company. At-Large Councilor Brian Gomes said NSTAR did a good job, but not good enough. He criticized the power company for not having live operators available to answer questions from customers who lost power during the storm.
