Cape Cod Ice Cream Shop Gets Sweet Surprise From ‘Top Gun’ Actor

What was expected to be another typical day for a Cape Cod ice cream shop turned into an unexpected encounter.

Locals weren't the only ones enjoying Ice Cream Smugglers' sweet treats in East Dennis. Among the list of visitors was Top Gun: Maverick actor Miles Teller, who appeared at the store last week.

Store owner Carter Catalano was just as surprised to see the actor walk in. She wasn't even aware it was him until he made a second appearance the next day.

"A few of my girls working that day follow his wife on social media so they identified her right away," Catalano told WBSM. "That's when we realized Miles was also with her. He was with his wife and I assume his family."

Catalano also shared her love for the Top Gun franchise, so talking with him was even more exciting, especially about the movie.

"He was so kind and humble about everything and was giving all the credit to Tom Cruise!" she said.

They even talked about his new miniseries Offer, recently released on Paramount+.

Talking with the star didn't stop there, either. Teller made his way to the back of the shop, chatted with staff, and shared recommendations for places to visit on Cape Cod.

That's when they all took a photo to document the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

A Cape Cod Favorite for Ice Cream

Ice Cream Smuggler is a very popular summer destination. It's located near the Cape Play House, so it's common for athletes and notable names to occasionally pop in and then come back to visit.

Catalano said that former NFL player Tedy Bruschi had visited the store once before for a week with his family. Boston Celtics player Peyton Pritchard and his wife are also fans of the Smuggler.

"It's always a surprise sometimes because you just never know who you'll see when you're working," she said.

The beloved ice cream shop has been around for 46 years, and Catalano and her husband have been running it for 20 years. In 2013, Trip Advisor crowned it one of the nation's best places to go for ice cream.

Whenever people come in, no matter matter who they are, Catalano and her staff strives to ensure they always feel comfortable and respected.
