The town of Acushnet now has a selectman with a stance on the controversial LNG facility.

Challenger Roger Cabral won Monday night's town election by a landslide against incumbent selectman Garry Rawcliffe, 709 votes to 419.

Cabral previously criticized the Board of Selectmen for not coming out against the potential LNG plant in Acushnet.

Cabral told WBSM News he doesn't plan to change as a selectman.

"The health and safety of the town is not for sale... It doesn't matter how much money they throw toward us", Cabral said.

The other contested race in town saw incumbent Lawrence Mulvey beat out challenger Robert Lanzoni for the Housing Authority seat; Pamela A. Labonte re-elected for Town Clerk; Robert Medeiros re-elected to Board of Health; David Michael DeTerra and Jody J. Tavares elected to the School Committee.

Acushnet's voter turnout for last night was 15% with 1139 total ballots cast.
