Bullets Found at New Bedford Middle School
NEW BEDFORD — Two bullets were found on the grounds of Keith Middle School in New Bedford late last month, resulting in a search involving police and local K-9 units.
WBSM News received an anonymous tip that law enforcement officials had searched the area on Jan. 26 after the bullets were discovered.
No other suspicious objects were found during a search of the building and school grounds that day, New Bedford Police spokesman Lt. Scott Carola told WBSM News.
Carola and Bristol County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jonathan Darling said the search was conducted with New Bedford police and two BCSO K-9s trained to detect ballistics.
New Bedford Public Schools spokesman Arthur Motta said the bullets were not found during school hours.
Motta also confirmed that nothing else was found in the police search.
At least one of the bullets found was a rusted casing, he said.
It is unclear how the bullets were found, and if parents or students were notified of the incident.
No further information was provided.
