A woman was very lucky in an early-morning drive-by shooting near Maple Gardens when a bullet just grazed her leg.

According to Herald News, a woman was lying in bed with her boyfriend at their home in Maple Gardens around 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday when she heard several loud bangs, then felt a burning sensation on her right leg and debris hitting her face. When she got out of bed she saw several holes in the wall under her bedroom window, as well as a scratch on her leg.

The ShotSpotter gunshot detection system picked up 11 gunshots near the intersection of Bright and Wayne streets. The responding police officers recovered 11 spent shell casings in the area and found seven bullet holes in the exterior of the victim’s residence, and one bullet in the hood of a nearby parked vehicle.

The woman’s boyfriend told police he heard five or six loud bangs, which he thought were fireworks until pieces of drywall began hitting his face.

Paramedics responded to the scene, but the woman refused further medical attention, Santos said.

Detectives are investigating. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fall River Police Department’s Major Crimes Division at 508-324-2796, or call the police department’s anonymous tips line at 508-672-TIPS.
