A Fairhaven man faces multiple charges after allegedly slashing a patron's throat at a local strip club.

According to New Bedford Police Detective Captain Steven Vicente, 35-year-old Steven Cavalcanti of Fairhaven was working as a bouncer at Temptation Gentlemen's Club on Popes Island, and was closing down just after 2am on August 16 when a patron made an off-handed remark toward him.

Cavalcanti reportedly put the customer in a chokehold, took out a knife, slashed the man's throat, and left the scene. He was arrested a short time later after returning to the scene.

Cavalcanti now faces charges of attempted murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

A report of the incident is being sent to the New Bedford Licensing Board for review.

The victim was treated at Rhode Island Hospital for a six-inch-long slash to the throat. He is expected to recover from his injury.
