My kids grew up believing the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots were supposed to win championships every few years, perhaps because for a while there, they did.

The New England Patriots, during the era of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, won six Super Bowl trophies in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017 and 2019.

The Red Sox won titles in 2004, 2007, 2013 and 2018.

The Boston Red Sox recently inducted three former players into the team's Hall of Fame, each of whom won at least one championship ring during those glory years.

All three players – Trot Nixon, Dustin Pedroia and Jonathan Papelbon – were drafted and developed by the Red Sox.

Christopher Trotman "Trot" Nixon was a first-round draft pick for Boston. He played in 982 games from 1996-2006. Nixon helped reverse the curse in 2004 when the Red Sox won their first World Series title in 86 years. Nixon played right field for the Red Sox.

Dustin Luis "Pedey" Pedroia, also known as "The Laser Show," played second base for Boston from 2006-2019. Pedroia was a part of the 2007, 2013 and 2018 championship teams. He spent his entire career in a Red Sox uniform.

Jonathan Robert "Pap" Papelbon pitched for the Red Sox from 2005-2011, earning a championship ring in 2007.

At a time when many passive sports fans couldn't name more than one player on the current Red Sox roster, the names Trot Nixon, Dustin Pedroia and Jonathan Papelbon sure bring back some great memories of a great period in Red Sox history.

MLB.com's Ian Browne's newsletter, Red Sox Beat, includes comments from all three new inductees about being added to the Red Sox Hall of Fame.
