Rising Star Chappell Roan Steals Limelight at Boston Calling
We're still trying to catch our breath from last weekend's Boston Calling show at Harvard University. The weather was ideal, the crowd brought the energy and the artists responded with some very memorable performances.
This year's Boston Calling roster featured some pretty big names including Ed Sheeran, Megan Thee Stallion, Hozier, The Killers, Renee Rapp and Jessie Murph.
Those who were lucky enough to catch Sunday's unforgettable performance from Chappell Roan were treated to something special.
From the beginning of Roan's performance, you could tell she was almost awestruck by the size of the audience. No surprise there, as estimates came in at around 45,000 people crowded into the Harvard field for the day's performances. Her joy was palpable, and she took the crowd along for the ride.
Just how big was the crowd, really? Take a look at the drone footage on this Instagram video.
The Missouri-born Roan smiled as the crowd immediately knew the cadence and the hand movements that accompany her fun song "Hot to Go!" Just a few weeks ago at a festival in Alabama, the crowd response to the song was only lukewarm. They didn't seem familiar. Boston was different, and Roan, 26, knew it.
It seemed to be one of those transformative moments in the life of a pop star.
Who could forget Taylor Swift's first stadium show was right here at Gillette Stadium in June of 2010? She spent an enormous amount of stage time stunned by the size of the Foxboro crowd of 55,000 adoring fans.

The adoration was very much a two-way street.
The Roan performance at Boston Calling 2024 was similar, but on a smaller scale. Something tells me that when we look back on this performance, it will be as a sign of things to come for this developing talent.
