Big improvements are coming to a popular outdoor music venue in Providence, Rhode Island.

Bold Point Park has hosted many concerts over the last few years, and after city officials broke ground last week, it is already on its way to a fresh look for music lovers to enjoy within the next calendar year.

State and city leaders gathered at Bold Point Park recently to share what is to come for the area.

East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva shared that in addition to a new concert venue, there will also be a kayak launch, walking paths and lighting at Bold Point Park.

“This parcel (commonly called ‘the bowtie’) is a parcel that has sat vacant since 1984,” he said in the official announcement. “And now, RI Waterfront Enterprises with collaboration from the state, city and the East Providence Waterfront Commission, will work to make this a vibrant area for many generations of visitors to enjoy."

The mayor spoke highly of Don Law, who will play a key role in the project’s development.

Bringing bands such as Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac to the area through the Boston Tea Party club, Law now owns Boston Opera House, works closely with Live Nation New England, and played a large part in the development of what is now known as Xfinity Center and many other venues.

“Law has been known to keep a relatively low profile while becoming one of the most successful and savviest promoters in North America,” said DaSilva, which will pay dividends in making Bold Point Park a success.

The city has permits ready to go to make Bold Point Park so much more than a field with a stage. Within the next calendar year, it is the city’s hope to have a new hot spot in the downtown area.
