A pretty sizable diamond ring was found near the Center School playground in Mattapoisett on Thursday night.

A caller to Michael and Maddie this morning wanted to get the word out to as many people as possible.

"I found it on one of the tables near the pickleball/tennis courts and playground behind Center School," the caller said. "It looked to me like somebody found it and left it on the table."

The woman posted a photo to a local Facebook group.

The jewelry certainly does not look like a small ring.

The caller says she picked up the ring because she was afraid someone might steal it.  She brought it to the Mattapoisett Police station this morning.

We asked the caller if she thought the diamond was real.

"It's hard to tell. It looks real, but I don't know. It doesn't really matter if it's real or not.  It's someone's ring and it means something to them. Someone is missing it."

The caller told us that, unfortunately, there is nothing engraved on the inside of the ring that would help identify the owner.

As we were talking about it on the air, Gazelle had an interesting thought.  He wondered if the ring had been placed down on the table and left behind intentionally, possibly by a woman scorned.

Obviously, there is no way to tell if there is any truth to Gazelle's theory, but we remain hopeful that the ring was accidentally left behind in the area and that the owner will be thrilled to find out that it has been found.

Anyone who believes they may have lost this ring Thursday night behind Mattapoisett's Center School should reach out to the Mattapoisett Police Department.
