Baby Golden Lion Tamarin Born at Roger Williams Park Zoo

Mother’s Day is two weeks away and Roger Williams Park Zoo recently announced the birth of another golden lion tamarin, just in time for mom to celebrate.

On Friday, April 24, Roger Williams Park Zoo welcomed a new baby golden lion tamarin to parents Raff and Kyle. The newest addition was born in the morning. Now “mom and baby are resting comfortably,” says Diane Nahabedian, Director of Marketing & Public Relations. “Baby tamarin will ride on dad's back between feeding times with mom.”

This sweet little face has a big brother, Angus. He is waiting to show his new sibling “the ropes” of running wild in Faces of the Rainforest. “I'm sure big brother, Angus is looking forward to having a sibling to explore and play with soon,” says Nahabedian.

Kyle, Raff and Angus are thrilled to welcome the newest member of the family, and RWPZ is looking “forward to lots of monkeying around ahead!”

According to a statement on the website, Roger Williams Park Zoo is currently closed to the public in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. “We have been monitoring the coronavirus situation, and know it is important to comply with both Mayor Jorge Elorza and Gov. Gina Raimondo on doing everything we can to help stop the spread of COVID-19,” stated Dr. Jeremy Goodman, Executive Director of Roger Williams Park Zoo.

Zoo staff awaits the day that it is safe to greet visitors once again and introduce their newest resident.
