Are We Ridiculous New England Sports Fans With Our Superstitions?
Game 1 of three for the Little League championship is a big one, am I right?
Much like all of the Major League Baseball players in New England, our kids have tons of crazy superstitions that they are so committed to before every game they play, especially playoff and championship games.
The Fairhaven Acushnet Little League is wrapping up its season of baseball with the final three playoff games. The first game was last night on Knox Field at Pope Park in Acushnet and it was a good one. My husband coaches and my son is a player on Knox Electric and we are playing in our very first championship series.
To prepare for the game, my son has a ritual and precise steps that he follows in detail:
-Wears a white Under Armour athletic fit t-shirt under his game jersey, no matter what the temperature is.
-Ankle socks only
-My husband baseball ties his cleats for him (nice and tight)
-Drinks water only from his Gatorade water bottle
-One package of Swedish Fish candy to snack on while in the dugout
Superstitions may sound silly to some, but we're off to a good start, after winning Game 1 last night! So maybe there is something to the pre-game ritual.
What do you think? Are superstitions overrated?
