State lawmakers are planning a tax holiday on August 10th and 11th. Any item under $2,500 will be tax free, excluding cars, restaurant meals and tobacco.

House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo said the House will vote on a sales tax holiday next week.

"The sales tax holiday will provide relief to consumers and encourage residents to shop locally. This legislation is a reaffirmation of the House’s commitment to supporting local businesses and keeping jobs in Massachusetts," DeLeo said in a statement.

The tax-free weekend is predicted to save consumers $20 million dollars.
