It looks like there's a new Sonic Drive-In restaurant coming to the SouthCoast.

Wareham Week is reporting that a Taunton-based developer wants to bring a Sonic to Wareham's Cranberry Highway.

The paper reports documents were filed with the Wareham Planning Department to open up a new location in the spot where Pro-Team Oil Change currently stands. The Sonic is expected to be built with between 24-36 covered parking spots, where roller-skating car hops can deliver burgers and shakes to customers in their cars.

The builder of the proposed Sonic is Sunil B. Patel of Taunton, who owns a number of convenience stores in that city.

The first hearing on the matter will be before the Zoning Board of Appeals on April 26.

The Wareham Sonic would be the second in the region. The Somerset Sonic opened in April of 2016.
