If you've recently purchased anything from Amazon, chances are you might be getting a free Halloween gift this year.

With Halloween getting canceled left and right from city to city, it's becoming more of a gloomy holiday than a fun and entertaining one this year. Go ahead, blame 2020, it's all the rage these days.

However, Amazon is looking to brighten up the holiday season with a nifty little arts and crafts project that doesn't require anything but a black marker. Oh, and it doesn't cost you a penny.

On the back of the boxes of your order, you'll notice a blank white pumpkin with the title above that says "Create your own augmented reality pumpkin." Basically, this is the new, modern way to carve pumpkins without the mess.

It's super simple and takes only a few minutes to do.

First, you'll want to download the app "Amazon AR" in your App Store. It's completely free and looks like this:

Next, you'll find your clean-slate pumpkin on both sides of the box. Start with one side and create your pumpkin with a dark marker; in this case, I used a black Sharpie.

Once you're done, it should look something similar to this:

What you'll want to do next is open up the Amazon AR app and scan your pumpkin that you colored in and created. It may take a couple of times to capture and collect, but eventually, you'll get a message that says "Scan Complete."

From there, your pumpkin will come to life on your smartphone or smart device and that's when the imagination starts to take over. You're given different options to dress up the pumpkin and make it really come to life:

It's not much, but it's a fun little gesture from the trillion-dollar enterprise whose mission to make Halloween a little less meek this year is a success in my book. Great for all ages and it puts a futuristic spin on how we can celebrate the holiday safely from the living room.
