Multiple crashes in Bristol County this morning have delayed drivers as a winter storm wreaked havoc on roads statewide.

A jackknifed tractor-trailer on the Braga Bridge in Fall River and another one on Route 24 North in Raynham caused backups for hours this morning as some drivers were diverted around the problem spots.

State police said in a Twitter post just before 10 a.m. Friday that troopers and other emergency personnel responded to I-195 westbound on the Braga Bridge in Fall River for a tractor trailer that had jackknifed.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to state police.

Several lanes were closed briefly as emergency services responded to the incident, although the crash was cleared and lanes were reopened less than an hour later.

Then, at 9:55 a.m., a tractor trailer jackknifed on Route 24 northbound just north of Route 44 in Raynham, causing all northbound lanes to be closed, according to state police.

A state police spokesperson said there was a diesel fuel leak reported, with Raynham fire and police departments assisting state police and MassDOT crews.

Traffic was diverted to Route 44 and the on ramps to Route 24 were closed for almost two hours, with long backups reported.

The scene was cleared and all lanes were reopened just before noon, according to the spokesperson.

Drivers around the state are opting to stay at home as sleet, freezing rain, and icy conditions are creating road hazards as the late winter storm moves east.

Bristol County remains under a winter weather advisory through this afternoon.
