A String Pickin’ Good Time Coming to the Z!

The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center has had a banner season, and it's not over yet!

The "Year of the Uke" has placed a spotlight on the ukulele, with such artists as Jake Shimabukuro and the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra taking front and center at The Z. But I like to view the "Year of the Uke" as a spotlight on not just one instrument, but a wide variety of underdog music makers. And I think the folks at The Z do, too.

Hence Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn's premiere performance at The Zeiterion on April 12. Bela and Abigail are two of the most skilled and talented banjo players within the last century, and have taken the art of pickin' several steps into the future.

Bela's first banjo was presented to him at the age of 15 by his grandfather in 1972. He hasn't put it down since. From studying at NYC High School of Music and Art to playing with pals on Boston sidewalks, Bela has honed his craft to please and impress audiences of all ages.

Accompanied by Abigail Washburn (who also happens to be his wife), Bela presents a show that seamlessly combines jazz, bluegrass, folk, rock, and more. If you fell in love with the soundtrack to the film "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", or find yourself getting lost in the musical styling of Alison Krauss, you will fall head over heels for Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn, coming to The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center April 12!
