If you told me 10 years ago that Crocs were going to be all the rage in footwear, I would have thought you were pulling my leg.

Fast-forward to 2022 when zillennials (Gen Z), millenials and Gen-Xers are rocking Crocs for more than just a fashion statement.

Just ask Mikey "Mohawk" Tavares, a New Bedford native and a good friend of mine who recently discovered the comfort and ease of wearing crocs. Tavares purchased a pair of white Crocs on Sept. 4 and has been raving about them ever since.

"People would tell me these things are mad comfortable and I would never believe it," Tavares tells Fun 107. "I probably won't wear sneakers ever again."

While some of his friends welcomed him to the "Croc side," others weren't too impressed by his purchase and took Tavares for a ride to Roast Town:

"Boo this man!"

"I don't know you anymore."

"No, God, Please No, Nooooo!"

To escalate the "haters" further, Tavares took it to the next level by seeking advice on how to properly clean his beloved Crocs. He was far from ready for the savagery of responses that littered his Facebook post.

Cue the public outrage:

"Easy, go to the kitchen open up the trash and drop inside. Next question," -- John Aiello

"Lighter fluid and a lighter." -- Paul Enos

"Right in the trash." -- Ryan Camacho

"You go get a big white bag also known as a trash bag and ... whip into the trash barrel outside and place the barrel on the curb so when trash truck comes it takes them to the junkyard for extra cleaning." -- Britnee Lebreux

Not sure what that last one was supposed to say, but the message was clear as day from everyone: "Throw them away."

Fortunately, for Tavares's sake, other people delivered some great tips and tricks on how he should go about cleaning his new white shoes:

"A little laundry detergent preferable liquid in the sink and scrub away." -- Gayle Gonet

"You got white ones? Baking soda and vinegar or water with a toothbrush." -- Brittany Lopes

"I usually take a face cloth with soap  and scrub them down rinse & done. ... Those are the perks of crocs, doesn't take much & if you ever get a pair of the fuzzy ones I put baking soda in them so that they don't get that sweat shoe smell." -- Marissa Goldberg

"I use dish soap and water... or Lysol wipes, baby wipes.. literally anything." -- Stephanie-Ann Limpus

I've never worn Crocs before nor do I have the interest in buying them. Tavares claims they're perfect for "big guys" if you're looking for something with comfort. Since I fall into that category, perhaps I should invest in a pair myself.

Tavares has thick skin and laughed off the ridicule claiming he "didn't know what he was missing" until he finally folded and bought himself a pair. Comfort over judgment -- that's his motto.

Moral of the story: Never judge a person by the shoes on their feet.
