Back in the 19th century and well into the 20th century, New Bedford had some interesting public transportation in the form of trolleys. We've all heard the stories from our parents and grandparents about them as they graced the streets of New Biege.

Thanks to Spinner Publications, you can see what they looked like at one time and where they were kept. You may have driven by The Car Barn where it is now an apartment building. At one time, trolley cars came in and out of The Car Barn on a daily basis.

It's too bad that New Bedford couldn't revive this piece of history. Sure, when the SRTA Trolleys sometimes drive around in the summertime, we get a tiny glimpse of what it would be like, but what if had the original ones? For those of us who love history, I think it would be quite an attraction for tourists visiting our area.

Take a look at this picture of The Car Barn back in 1911.
