The New Bedford Career Center is now MassHire Greater New Bedford Career Center. But their focus is still the same. They are connecting job seekers with businesses looking to fill various positions like these:

Youth Services program tailors its services to meet the needs and goals of each youth. Youth eligible for the program come from low-income families and face barriers to economic self-sufficiency such as deficiencies in basic literacy skills, no high school diploma or GED, a criminal record, homelessness or life as a foster child.

Youth Services that are offered include career coaching, occupational training, job search assistance, and life management training skills. Occupational training leads to industry-recognized credentials and employment in high growth occupations. Assistance with the GED exam is also offered.

On top of all our Youth services, we also have specialized training of happening Now…for “Out of School Youth” E-Workstyles, PAACA Insight, PACE Youth Work, and the Visor Program.

Our Youth Department at the MassHire Greater New Bedford Career Center is currently recruiting for 4 Programs for Out of School Youth ages 16-24. We have two returning programs that ran very successfully last fiscal year in addition to 2 new programs. EWorkstyle is one of our returning programs. They are looking to fill 8 slots this year. Participants will develop hands-on experience in the communications & media fields. Participants will produce a tv show, podcast, & write for a magazine. This program is geared to those interested in enhancing writing & public skills that will increase marketability in the workforce & future careers. PACE/YouthBuild is our other returning program. This is a 10-month HISET program where Youth will participate in a two-week rotation of HiSET preparation & employment success training. During Employment success training, participants will work toward a Nationally recognized certification in Career Readiness. Upon completion of EST, youth will receive On-the-Job training opportunities/internships. All youth will receive life skills and financial literacy training along with a stipend as they reach certain benchmarks.

One of our new programs is a Hi-Set Program called Insight through PAACA. The youth will participate in in-class time to prepare for the HISET exam. Class time will run flexibly from 3-6 pm, with staff available for any assistance from 10-6 pm daily. Marketability skill-building, resume writing, and job placements will be included for youth participants. Our last program is called VISOR which is held at the Co-Creative Center in Downtown New Bedford. This program includes the development of progressive skills such as problem-solving, effective interpersonal communication, improved emotional intelligence, and leadership techniques through hands-on learning of evolving technologies. Participants will receive a monthly stipend and many networking opportunities. We have 5 slots available for this program and are looking to start up this month. With all 4 programs, case management, wrap-around services, and supportive services will all be provided by MassHire.
