Local Theater Flourishes as Your Theatre Brings Hitchcock to New Bedford
With the reopening of the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center and the continued success of Your Theatre Inc. at the Steeple Playhouse, it appears the performing arts are flourishing in New Bedford.
Dial M for Murder Takes the Stage
Your Theatre is wrapping up its first weekend of performances of Dial M for Murder, the Alfred Hitchcock classic, with four more performances next weekend, January 23-25.
Director James Sanguinetti visited Townsquare Sunday this week and spoke about Your Theatre's latest production, his love for local theater, and the rest of the 2026 season.

Director James Sanguinetti’s Theater Roots
Sanguinetti said he was introduced to theatre at New Bedford High School under the direction of George Charbonneau and the late Armand Marchand, both teachers at the time.
"As a kid, I grew up watching a lot of sci-fi and a lot of Hitchcock, and the film Dial M for Murder was one of my favorites," Sanguinetti said. "When we were selecting plays for this season, I saw there was a script for Dial M, so I jumped at the chance."
What’s Ahead for Your Theatre’s 2026 Season
The 2026 season will conclude with a production of The Best We Could (A Family Tragedy), with seven performances beginning March 20, and seven performances of A Few Good Men, beginning May 8.
"We actually trust our directors to come to us, and tell us what plays they want to do," Sanguinetti said. "We think it's important for directors to work on plays they feel passionate about."
"When I direct, I want there to be collaboration. This isn't just what I want, its what everyone wants. Everyone has a hand in creating the final product," he said.
Why Community Theater Matters
Sanguinetti said the magic of local theater is getting people involved. "Some people never want to be on stage, so we ask them what they are interested in. Some are hands-on, so they get into set-building," he said. "Others love clothing, so they get into costuming. And some just want the simple role of usher, and that's fine. That's what I love about theater. There's something for everybody."
