Martha's Vineyard has been called a beautiful place off the coast of reality and with many of us staying close to home these days, there is no better time than this summer to escape to the island for a beach vacation.

There are six small towns nestled in less than 100 square miles, each with their own distinctive personality. Islanders refer to up-Island, which includes the rural country towns of Aquinnah, Chilmark and West Tisbury, and down-island, which includes the busy port towns of Vineyard Haven (a.k.a. Tisbury), Oak Bluffs and Edgartown.

With so much to explore on the island, here's what to know about your future visit.
