Watch: Woman Jumps Into The Providence River To Retrieve Her Purse
Some of us will do anything for fashion, even if that means jumping into a river.
A woman was seen leaping into the Providence River near the Providence Place Mall to retrieve a personal item, but shortly after, the rescuer needed rescuing.
The scene unfolded on Thursday afternoon as a woman plunged into the river to recover what appeared to be her purse.
What’s Going On in Rhode Island obtained footage of the incident, showing the woman attempting to swim to the wall to hoist herself out of the water.
The video cuts to the woman on the ledge of the river next to a parking garage as a shirtless man is seen exiting the water and helping the woman over a railing and into the parking garage.
“A bystander said she could not hold on to the rock anymore when she was (being) rescued,” said the Rhode Island page.

This isn’t the first time someone has taken an unexpected swim in the Providence River. Last month, a woman jumped in during the 4th of July WaterFire celebration to save a distressed rabbit. The rescue went viral on TikTok, and both the woman and rabbit were brought to safety by the WaterFire captain.
Some people save animals. Some people save purses. In both instances, it turned a lot of heads in downtown Providence.
Other than a waterlogged purse and an unexpected swim, it appears no one was harmed during the incident.
